Clinical Variations Between Different Forms of Achalasia

Background: Esophageal achalasia is a motility disorder characterized by lack of esophageal peristalsis and failure the lower sphincter (LES) to relax. Patients typically present dysphagia for both solids liquids, regurgitation, retrosternal chest pain, cough, aspiration, weight loss heartburn, which affect their quality life. Objective: To determine whether High-resolution manometry (HRM) subtypes could be differentiated based on symptoms or radiographic findings. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was used, data collected from 60 patients between 18 65 years diagnosis using HRM over period ten years. The symptom assessment done in clinical interview three international questionnaires symptoms. Results: mean duration 3 groups 25.03 ± 24.88 months, type I 25 22.76 months II 24.98 27.32 III had median 27 (18-36) months. diameter with 4.87 1.48 cm. Type greatest dilation (5.37 1.7 cm) when compared (4.46 1.03 2.75 (2-3.5) length all different among groups; 24.19 2.96 cm 22.96 2.23 cm, 20.63 (20.13-18.13) Conclusions: Despite difference degree subtypes, does not appear correlated pattern achalasia.
